Do you want to know all the other things I've been doing instead of writing? Organizing things I didn't seem to care about until this week. Coming up with strange designs to form into jewelry. Making lists of all the things I should do. Cutting up lemons to put in every glass of water or iced tea I drink. Strange, I know.

Oh, this one is the best! Basketball! Yeah, we got one of those dual basketball at-home set-ups at a going out of business sale last year. It was my very determined goal to beat the high score. And, I finally did! New high score by me, 74 (sorry Josh). Hey at least it's exercise.
I've also been coming up with all sorts of ways to make my house more fun to live in, including adding some whimsy to my living room. I got a pillow with a fish on it, painted two pots and put plants in there named Phineas and Kickmule. (Man, if my characters were this odd they'd at least be interesting). And I got a dog! Yep, a little mascot that doesn't sit but never makes a mess and never makes any noise. See? This is Rufus (he's sitting next to Phineas).
So...as you can plainly see, I haven't been writing. And, for those of you who are nice enough to continue to read this blog even if you think I'm off my rocker, I need help. I need some way to organize my writing and get back to work. So, later this week, I will be posting exactly how many projects I am working on and their genres (oh, yes, there are three different genres). And if I can't figure it out, I might just post all the names of the projects on a dartboard, throw the dart and then, somehow, make myself follow through on that project. Oh boy...

Recently I couldn't get back into writing after taking a "break" (right...). I struggled along until I set some writing goals and started entering contests for my state's writing conference. Now all I want to do is write, but I'm deeply involved with other communities and hobbies.
Here's my advice in a nutshell (literally, no doubt): find a variety of writing contests and enter them (stepping out of your box can help boost your creativity), and do not wait too long to take action because you might find it hard to break away from your new routines.
I like the dart idea because I have first hand knowledge that you have good aim :) Hypothetically, if you had all your ideas on a board and threw the dart, what would you aim at the most? I know it helps me to not put so much pressure on myself. Sometimes that can be my biggest conqueror. Easier said then done I know. I have faith you will find your way soon :)
Sounds like procrastination at its best! ;) It can be so hard to turn the thinking into doing. For me, it's because of all the fear: rejection, incompletion, judgment. What if I can't finish another manuscript? What if this idea bubbles away into nothing? It's never ending. But we just have to suck it up, MAKE ourselves do it. I get to going best after a long stint of procrastination, when I become frustrated with myself for not working - and have to sit down and focus on remedying it.
Good luck to you, Cindy!
PS. Rufus is cute!
Next week's word of the week: Procrastinate :)
As you have so many ideas (lucky you), why not write them in an 'idea diary', then put them to one side for when you run out of ideas?
Or maybe you're just a typical writer...always avoiding what you know you need to do.
Alright, so I'm procrastinating...I need to commit and stop whining, right? So which story do I commit to, I wonder? You're right, Kylene, with the dart thing. What would I aim at? Perhaps that is where I should start. Thanks for the encouragement, though, everyone!
Do you like the company that is publishing your books? Congrats on that!
Procrastination helps build character. Hey, a girl can dream can't she? ;)
Cindy, I too have a question about Oak Tara. What do they do to help promote your book? BTW I think they sound great. How do you like their editor?
I like OakTara so far. I've had very little correspondence with the editor (though what I've gotten as of yet has been encouraging) at this point because I haven't started the editing process. I have, however, been in contact with three or four other authors who are published with OakTara and asked them about their experience. They have great things to say about the editor and pretty much the entire process. As far as marketing, because they promote books mostly on-line, I am not super familiar with the ways they try to get books out there to the Internet market. I know they are growing and building this aspect of it and I hear an update here or there about the places they are trying to get to carry our books. CBD is pretty recent and very exciting. I hear they also try to get regional bookstores in the area the author lives in to carry our books. I'll keep you posted as I continue through the process.
Hi Cindy,
Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier. BTW I LOVE the background of your blog! Cute!
Here I am procrastinating too. But it's so fun to blog hop!
Jody
Hi Cindy! I agree with Jody...your background is so pretty! ;-) Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the great advice.
I procrastinate by purusing blogs... lol. (But I can justify it as promotion. :>))
I've been struggling with writing lately, too. I have a daily goal of 1000 words a day, and I haven't met it even once in the last 2 weeks.
My daughter's room is painted though! (Maybe it is the spring/summer writer's block fever?) :)
