So what kind of tricks have I been using to help find that balance in my day and relieve some stress?
Weekly Goal Board
I love lists, so I've been using a weekly chore board to keep my (and my kids') household commitments on track. This involves separating chores into various days (and sticking to it! even if I want to work ahead). Laundry on Tuesdays and Fridays, grocery shopping on Mondays, etc. And, of course, a day worked in to spend extra time for family, with a family night.
Down-time Activity
For me this is taking even ten minutes in the middle of a busy day to sit and watch some of a show I've recorded, or read part of a book. I've been loving magazines lately as well because they force me to focus on one thing at a time, and that thing is usually something simple and fun (decorating, recipes, etc.)
Morning Devotions
I've been reading a new devotional I got. I read it at the start of the day, just one short page but it helps focus and center my mind. There's an idea or concept or lesson in there that keeps me grounded and more focused on God during the day.
Be a Kid Again
I have three daughters so we have plenty of childlike enthusiasm in our house. But I find that, even on busy days, if I schedule in a block of time to simply play with them like a child, not just as their mother, I feel less stress. (Yesterday, my middle daughter and I pretended we were dogs and crawled around getting treats from our imaginary owner.) Doing this, I feel like I've
relinquished the typical stress we adults carry around as adults and embraced simplicity. No stress, no worries.Treat Yourself
This doesn't have to be a big thing, just something that makes you feel special or makes you smile. A piece of chocolate, a bubble bath. I LOVE flowers because they brighten my home, make me smile, and they last more than one day.
I'd love to know some of your tips and tricks to keep the day more stress free and productive. Please share!

I love the idea of being a kid again. These are great ideas, Cindy!
As far as things that keep me less stressed, I love a good run. Thanks so much for this post!
Wow...down-time. I really need to work that into my day more. Entire days slip by without me setting aside time to either treat myself or have a few minutes to breathe.

Hi Heidi. Being a kid is fun. It's hard to remember how much easier life was back then until we try just making it more simple. Thanks for stopping by!
Wendy, you definitely need to find down-time! Trust me, ten or fifteen minutes once or twice a day will work wonders.
These are wonderful tips, Cindy! These kinds of things help me keep a good perspective, and help avoid grouchiness. :)
Love these tips. I especially like that you make time to play with your girls. They will remember that forever.
Oh, a bubble bath sounds like heaven right now. I think I'll go take one. :)
Karen, I love how you put that! Grouchiness. Yes, our lives are a lot smoother when there isn't grouchiness.
Hi Erica! I know kiddos carry specific memories around with them for a long time. Hopefully they have some good ones :)
Susan, lol! That DOES sound good but I had to settle for a quick shower this morning. No time! (Kind of contradicts some of what I put in my post :D)
Great tips.
I'm big on down time - even if it's just a few minutes.
Oh goodness, I have NOT been doing such a great job at this lately, but I think sickness has had a hand in that. Boo! :)
Anyway, I'm typically a major list-maker and it's always my lifesaver (and schedule saver).
Great tips, Cindy! :)
Cindy, I love your tips. You're my list sister! :) I'm so a list person. I think I have three or four lists going at once. It's a little crazy, but it makes sense to me somehow. :)
Loree, good for you! Sometimes we think of it as selfish to take time for ourselves, but squeezing in a few minutes is not selfish at all. Most often it helps us be better people, and better for those around us. Congrats again on your news!
Sarah, I'm praying for you! I really hope you feel better soon. And I know you're all about lists! I love your list ideas when you give them :)
Melanie, yes! Totally list sisters. I thought I was the only one who had several lists going at once. Hey, if it works, then hooray for us!
i love my job....it's what keeps me stress free, mainly b/c i am a kid while i'm there! i mean, play-doh, games....it's awesome. best of luck being stress free this year!
and sorry for being so out of touch....geez. it's been months!
Down time always works for me.
A health issue forced me to add daily exercise to my schedule. As a formerly sedentary person who was happy with my lifestyle, I balked at first. Now I'm seeing the many benefits of exercise, one of the primary ones being stress relief. Rather than dreading my workouts and walks as I feared would be the case, I find myself looking forward to them.
Sleeping late!
